Singapore

Singapore, a beautiful and cleanest country, is famous for its green, people’s enthusiasm and law obedience. This small island country is located 010 north of the Equator, at the south end of Malaysia. It is bordered by Strait of Malacca and South China sea.

Climate:

Climate in Singapore is quite similar to that in Vietnam and has sunny weather all year-round. Due to influence of coastal climate, temperature in Singapore almost ranges between 24oC and 32oC. Singapore has a high humidity of about 84.4 %. In December, it often rains continually; it is sunny during February; July and August are the hottest months when temperature reaches maximum.

Means of transportation:

Singapore has an effective network of public transportation, including taxi, bus and Mass Rapid Transit (MRT).

Buses operate from 5:30 am to midnight. Buses in some places operate overnight.

MRT is the fastest and most convenient means of transportation to Singaporeans.

Culture:

Singapore is a multi-ethnical country which has many festivals and holidays of many countries such as: Malaysia, India, China, Western countries, etc.

Festival of Thaipusam: is a celebration of the birth of Lord Murugan (Lord Subramaniam) the youngest son of Shiva. The festival is usually around the last week of January or the first week of February. The celebration takes part in the Little India section of Singapore.

Chingay Parade: this festival is organized yearly during Lunar New year holidays. It is an occasion for Singaporeans to express and consolidate their multi-ethnical culture.

Living expense:

International students often spend 750 S$ – 2,000 S$ for living expenses. Of course, these depend on the living style and course fees of each student.

Accommodation S$ 400 - S$ 1,500 (rental depends on areas, type of accommodation, demand, facilities and number of sharing persons. 
Travel by public transportation S$ 20 - S$ 150 (depends on price reduction cards for students)
Personal expenses S$ 100 - S$ 300 (depend on each student’s needs, including:clothes, personalhygiene, entertainment, hair cut and other costs, etc.)

Forms of Accommodation:

Dormitory of the Government: S$ 300 – 450 / student / month (air-conditioned room). Generally, apartments have 02 – 03 rooms, and students often rent the whole apartment, then share with other students. Other options are dorm, HDB flats and high class apartment.

High-class apartment: S$ 500 - S$1,000/ month / student
HDB flat S$ 250 (one room) – S$ 1000 (whole apartment)
Whole house S$ 1000 - S$ 4,000/ month
Dormitory S$ 140 - S$ 440/ month (depends on no. of sharing persons)
Private apartment (whole) S$ 3000 – S$ 6,000/month
Private apartment (whole) S$ 30 - S$ 600/ person/ night
Homestay About S$ 1,000/month
