Schools in Australia must be registered with Australian Government to deliver courses for international students, which not only ensures to maintain educational standards but also makes sure that there are not many differences of standards between schools.


Primary: 6-7 years as to states and territories. 6 years (Australian Capital Territory, New South Wale, Tasmania, Victoria); 7 years (Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia)

Secondary School Programs: From 5 - 6 years as to states and territories

Secondary Schools include private and public ones with a wide range of schools such as boarding schools, catholic schools, boy schools, girl schools or mixed schools. All schools teach main subjects like English, Mathematics, Sciences and Arts, Technique and languages. Besides, students can take other various subjects such as communication, agriculture, graphic design, music and accounting.

After finishing Senior Secondary School Programs, students will be granted Senior Secondary Certificate of Education.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS (Certificate/ Diploma/ Advanced Diploma/ Vocational Graduate Certificate/ training courses at public schools under Technical and Further Education _ TAFE or at private institutes. Vocational Graduate Diploma)

Students can take vocational  Training Diplomas help students exempt some credits if they continue degree programs.



  • Certificate I: 3 – 6 months
  • Certificate II & III: 6 – 12 months
  • Certificate IV: 12–18 months

After getting certificates, students can find appropriate jobs or continue Diploma or Advanced Diploma program then Bachelor Programs.


Vocational schools and Universities offer these programs

  • Diploma: 1-2 years
  • Advanced Diploma: 2-2.5 years

After finishing Diploma programs, students can transfer to degree programs at university partners.


  • Vocational Graduate Certificate: 6 months
  • Vocational Graduate Diploma: 1- 1.5 years


Bachelor Degree: at least 3 years

Bachelor Degree with Honour: 4 years

Bachelor degree is a basic degree to continue higher study. Students can get close network of knowledge, basic principles and definitions and cooperative solution technique. Students develop their study skills; understanding and evaluating attitude toward information and definition. They also develop their revision consolidation expansion application skills to prepare students for post graduate education.

Bachelor Degree with Honour: A Bachelor Degree with Honours takes an additional year after a Bachelor Degree. Honours may also be granted where outstanding achievement is recorded in a Bachelor Degree course of four or more years.


Length: 6 – 12 months

These programs focus on developing individual skills which students obtained through Diploma, Degree or higher study programs and vocational skills in professional areas.  

MASTER DEGREE: 1-2 years

This program increases professional vocational skills. Its style specific is that students have to do a research completely or attend classes or combine both of them. They obtain specialized knowledge of a specific field through an independent research.   

PHD DEGREE:  3 years

·     The Doctoral Degree is the highest award offered by Australian universities. Although traditional PhD’s are research degrees, some programs may have a coursework component.

·     There are three components to a Doctoral Degree:

  • A review of relevant literature, experimentation, or other systemic approaches to a body of knowledge.
  • An original research project resulting in a significant contribution to knowledge and understanding and/or the application of knowledge within a discipline or field of study.
  • A substantial and well-ordered thesis, demonstrating the relationship of the research to the broader framework of the discipline or field of study.

Australian Labour Ministry and Ministry of Training and Education allow 700 schools to offer courses for international students. Australia is the first country that applies international protection policies. When an international student pays his tuition fees, however the school unfortunately is closed; the student will be changed to another school with the same program registered without any additional fees.
